
Suffolk ~ Ralph L. Calhoun, Sr., 80, passed away in his home quietly July 5, 2007. He was born in Norfolk to the late James M. and Carter Cook Calhoun. Ralph married June Spring on August 25, 1944. He worked on the Norfolk Ferry in his teen years prior to serving in World War II as a Staff Sgt. in Italy. He was a founding member of the Virginia Beach Auxillary Police with the rank of Major. He enjoyed many years of working at Suffolk Raceway. He loved going camping and being with family and friends. Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Spring Calhoun; daughter, Sharon (Edward) Rainey; three sons, Ralph (Sally) Calhoun, Jr., Richard Calhoun and his fiancee', Barbara, Randy (Susan) Calhoun; five grandchildren, Ashley and Cory Calhoun, Whitney and Marshall Rainey, and Ryan White; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Cathy Marie; brother, James Calhoun, Jr.; and two sisters, Ruby Wilder and Ethel Look. A service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 9, 2007 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach, with Dr. Barthalomew Lopresti officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
