

Norfolk ~ Roland Edward Lewis, 75, of Norfolk, passed away September 4, 2007. Son of the late Rupert C. Lewis and Ellen Stiles Lewis. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Alma Flowers Lewis of Norfolk; son, Mark Lewis and daughter-in-law, Ednamae Lewis of Hampton; daughter, Marsha Lewis and her longtime friend, Darlene Dutt of Newport News. Roland was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, graduated from Cape Charles High School and the Virginia State Police Academy. Took educational courses at Old Dominion University, Greenrun Community College, and University of Delaware. He retired after nearly 40 years with the Virginia State Police. He was owner and CEO of Pro Sports Trips, Inc.. He was a member of Ferebee-Halstead Methodist Church. Past president of the Tidewatchers Booster Club of the Norfolk Tides, Past president of Fox Hall Civic League, Former member of board of Ferebee-Halstead Methodist Church, Former member of board and coach of Azalea Little League where he coached championship team to 20 straight wins, member of the Norfolk Sports Club where he served on its board and was Member of the Year in 1999, Former committeeman with boy scouts, former member of Irish-American Society, the Moose, Knights of Pythians, Virginia Beach Genealogy Society, Fort Monroe Cub and Langley Officers Club, former member of the ODU Baseball Committee, member of the Virginia State Police Association and Virginia State Police Aumni. Roland traveled with his wife to all 50 states, 54 foreign countries, and took 18 ocean cruises. He worked in communications at numerous Governor's Conferences in Williamsburg. He met many dignitaries, celebrities, and professional sports figures. Shook hands with President Jimmy Carter. He was at ease with everyone from the avergae person to the President of the United States. A celebration of Roland's life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2007 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
