Born in Macabebe, Pampanga, Philippines, Roma lived a life full of love, generosity, and adventure. She met the love of her life, Simeon “Sam” Mendoza Jr., through a pen pal connection—an unlikely beginning that led to over 52 years of a beautiful life together in Norfolk, Virginia.
Roma had the biggest heart and a deep sense of responsibility for others. She sponsored and supported countless family members from across the world, helping them pursue better lives in the United States.
She believed in hard work, but also in joy—living by the motto “you only live once (YOLO).” Roma loved to travel the world and often brought back stories full of laughter and wisdom. She was passionate about family, fun, and creating lasting memories.
In her own words:
“I have no regrets and I am beyond blessed. I lived life to the fullest with my family by my side.”
Roma is survived by her devoted husband, Sam Mendoza; their children, Sharyn Rogers (Jeremy), Sandra Brown, and Rich Mendoza (Sharina); and her beloved grandchildren: Corbin, Brandon, Austin, Hudson, Justice, and Nina.
She also leaves behind numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins—all of whom she kept up with regularly and loved sincerely.
Roma’s legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched with her kindness, strength, and generosity.
A visitation and viewing for Roma will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 10AM to 12PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia 23502 and includes a funeral liturgy at 11AM. A reception will follow at 12PM in the same place.
