Ruby L. Jeter

Ruby Lee Bowles Jeter, 88, of Norfolk passed away peacefully to be with her loving Lord on Tuesday, March 9 at Sentara Nursing Center in Virginia Beach. relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7 to 8 P.M. on Friday, March 12 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 13 at the Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, and interment to follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. Ruby was born in Norfolk, the daughter of Linda and Bonnie Bowles. She attended Maury and Granby high schools and became the wife of Emmett Jeter. They were married for 69 years. Ruby worked many years as a bookkeeper and secretary in various companies. She was a devoted volunteer, committing 20 years to Meals on Wheels and many years at Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. As a member of Ocean View Baptist Church and Virginia Heights Baptist Church, Ruby served as secretary of her Sunday School Departments and as a devoted member of the church choir. Ruby is survived by her loving husband, Emmett Jeter, a son, Emmett Jr. and his wife, Dottie, and a daughter, Paulette Cicero and her husband, Russell. Emmett Jr. and Dottie blest Ruby with two grandchildren, Emmett III and his wife, Betty and William (Bill).William blest her with a great-grandson, Michael. Paulette and Russell blest Ruby with two grandchildren, Kristin Kemp and her husband, Gene and Marc Cicero and his wife, Annaleah. Kristin and Gene blest her with three great-granddaughters, Brianna, Mikayla and Madelyn. In addition, Ruby is survived by her sister, Betty Ann Hewitt and her husband, Tommy, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Grant and her husband, George.
