The Life Legacy Ruffin Samuel Walton, 85, entered eternal rest on 24 January 2023. Ruffin was born on 10 January 1938 in Freeman, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, Ruffin C. Walton, his mother, Dorothy H. Walton and his brother, Alonzo F. Walton (Buck). Ruffin will be forever missed by many people, especially his wife of 62 years Obie S. Walton of Chesapeake, VA. Ruffin is survived by three children, Donovan L. Walton (Sylvia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Sedra M. Spruell (Byron) of Long Branch, NJ; and Stephanie M. Walton of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren Donovan L. Walton II (Camille) of San Diego, CA, Erik J. Glover II of Nashville, TN, Devyn T. Spruell (Fi. Allison) of Chicago, IL; Aleah K. Spruell, Whitney Torres of Virginia Beach, VA and Ebony Watson of Norfolk, VA; four siblings, Glorice Scott of Newport News, VA, Eunice Bright of Freeman, VA, Orelia Nicholson (Maurice) of Richmond, VA, and Janice Robinson (Robert) of Teaneck, NJ. His three great grandchildren, Chase, Zoë and Zuri Walton will hear stories of their infamous great grandad for years to come. He will be missed by many extended family members and dear friends. In 1960, he graduated from St. Paul College (University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. After teaching in Virginia for a few years, Ruffin moved to New Jersey in 1963 and continued his teaching career. In keeping with his caring spirit, Ruffin taught special education for 33 years at Passaic High School. He also served as the moderator of the African American Club for many years. The Passaic High School Teacher’s Association are remembering him as a good man, wonderful teacher and great co-worker. For many years, in New Jersey and Virginia, Ruffin was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. Fraternity. He became a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk, VA and will be remembered for his leadership and participation in pancake breakfasts, the Nest Homeless Ministry, and the annual golf tournaments. Ruffin was an avid golfer and member of the Redwing Senior Golf Association for many years. Ruffin’s dedication, love and support of family always came first. His children were his pride and joy. Whatever they wanted, needed or deserved he provided and held numerous jobs to make it a reality. Ruffin will forever be loved, cherished and remembered by all who knew him. The celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday January 31, 2023 at 1pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
