

Thomas Hewitt was born in Mt. Vernon, NY in January of 1932, the second of the 6 children born to Thomas and Mabel Hewitt. He graduated from Machine & Metal High School in Manhattan NY prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. At the end of his enlistment while stationed in Jacksonville Florida Thomas met Omega Crews on a blind date. The two went on to get married in February of 1956 and spent 65 years together until the passing of Omega. The couple set up house in Queens, NY and went on to have 3 cherished daughters, Gloria, Sharon and Mary. Thomas worked at Lafayette Radios until he was hired by the NYC MTA where he worked on communication systems until his retirement in 1994. A very caring and involved grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Melisa, Matthew, Samantha, Amanda, Kristina, Melody, Robert, Julia, Steven and Dylan. Grandpa as he was known not only to his own grandchildren but to all of their friends was the chauffeur, chef and everything in between for the grandchildren. His 5 great grandchildren James, Shane, Edward, Javier and Sabrina will miss him dearly. In addition, Thomas is survived by his brother Paul, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Thomas loved sports, especially basketball. He refereed many games for the CYO, YMCA, PAL and the New York City High Schools. Also, he was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed fishing. Thomas’ hobbies include arts & crafts, painting and woodworking.
