William Harold Norman

Deacon William Harold Norman Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021. Deacon Norman was preceded in death by his parents Rom Lee Norman and Estella Norman; a son Bruce Harold Norman, Sr., a daughter Daphne Brown, and a Son-in-law David Dunn, Brother-in-laws: Henry Alexander, Clifton Cross and Russell Bright, a Sister-in-law Cora Lee Norman

He came to Norfolk, VA from Roper, North Carolina at the age of 17. His first job was working as a groundskeeper with the City of Norfolk to help his parents financially back home, and he continued to support his mother after his father passed away in March 1956. William married his wife Vernice at the age of 22 in February, 1958. He retired as a truck driver for John's Brother's Oil and Heating Company after 38 years of service.

He first came to Christ at Bethlehem Church of God in Christ where he first served as an Usher, Trustee and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He served most recently, as a Deacon and sang in the choir at Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ in Norfolk. Deacon William Harold Norman truly loved his wife and family and was a true servant of God.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years Vernice Elizabeth Norman; children Robert Lee Norman and wife Vera, William Harold Norman, Jr., Arleen Norman, Ricky Lee Norman and wife April, Steven L. Norman, Elaine Ann Gaskins and husband Earl, Mark Lee Norman and wife Danita, Stephanie Dunn, Willie Barnes and an adopted son Larry T. Wynn. Grandsons: Bruce Norman Jr., Ricky Howard, Tyrone Norman (Shannon), Desmond Scott, Robert Norman, Jr., Randy Norman, Reese Norman, Rayvon Norman, Damir Norman, and Mark Norman,Jr. Granddaughters: Chantel Norman, Jahmakeya Norman, Sherimka Foster, Shaakira Foster, Tiffany Wilson (Derrick), Desirae Scott, Candace Norman, Chelsea Norman, Markayla Norman, Elisha Gaskins, Eliyah Gaskins, Damari Norman. Great Grand Kids: Destiny Norman, Treyvon Wilson, Alaja Floyd, Marqueus Flowers, Kali Foster, Royal Norman, Rashad Norman.

Willliam is also survived by two sisters; Corinthia Alexander, Stella Norman, three brothers; Elmer Lee Norman, Johnnie Norman (Nellie) and Jimmy Norman, and sister-in-laws: Carolyn Wood (Larry), Catherine Conquest, Jeanette Conquest, and Maretha Jones (Tyrone) and a host of relatives and friends.
