After a long illness Bill passed on peacefully into a blessed sleep two days after his 78th birthday. His birthday was special to him because he received many calls and cards from his friends and relatives, so many that he spent most of his day on the phone. He was known for his contagious sense of humor and his generous heart for helping people. His hospice nurse said it best, “His heart enveloped the hearts of others and drew them in.” He cherished his family and considered his many friends as if they were his own family.
For many years he was employed in oil field positions around Enid and Oklahoma City, with the last oil company being Wishbone Oil & Gas. He was a jack of all trades in that he had much experience in carpet laying, installing insulation and various electrical skills, etc. His last position was with Surplus n More in Norman until 2004 when he retired. He and his wife traveled all over the U.S. in their motor home, and made many friends and happy memories.
Around 2012 his travels were ended due to an illness, but he became tenacious in his other endeavors, especially when using leather to create different items, such as ship models, eagles, and other various birds, as well as scrimshaw etchings of ocean views. His cleverness helped him to be optimistic for the future. His favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31 which served him well.
He was the second son of Alvy O. & Jean M. Jones of Shawnee and Norman. Bill is survived by his wife Bonnie (Bonita) Jones of 57 years. His beloved son, Christopher; daughter-in-law, Lee Jones and precious granddaughter Kaila of Florida; his brother Robert Michael Jones & wife Regina of Oklahoma City, niece Christine Woodard & husband Kevin of Moore & their family Ashlie & Ethan Woodard; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Skip & Linda Crowley of Maine & Florida, Artell & Alice Crowley of Nantucket; Andriene Crowley of Glade Springs, Virginia; Uncle Bob Carr & Cousin Jeana Carr of Colorado and many other beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He would want his nurses and caretakers, his “angels” to know how grateful he was for their considerate thoughtful care of him and his hope was that their memories of him would cause smiling faces.
During this time of social distancing, there will be no visitation, nor service. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
