Billy Dale “Smokey” McCormick, 79, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, in Moore, Oklahoma. He was born on June 21, 1946, in Wellington, Texas, to James Anderson McCormick and Edna Isabel Lloyd McCormick.
Billy grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and graduated from Olustee High School. He lived in Texas and throughout Oklahoma before settling in Norman with his beloved wife, Brenda, in 2007. Billy and Brenda were married on September 9, 1977, and shared 46 wonderful years together before her passing on November 21, 2023.
A man who made friends everywhere he went, Billy was known for his easy smile, quick wit, and warm, welcoming nature. He enjoyed a simple, joyful life filled with the things he loved most: his family, good company, and the small daily comforts that brought him peace. He found delight in playing golf and bowling and spending quiet time watching the squirrels and birds outside his window. He also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and bingo. Billy was an enthusiastic fan of the OKC Thunder, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty.
Above all else, Billy treasured his family. He is survived by his children: Diana Geiger of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Michelle Eddington of Newark, Texas; and Shara Lynn Schane and her husband Michael of Newcastle, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother Emit McCormick of Yukon, Oklahoma.
Billy leaves behind seven grandchildren who brought great joy to his life: Victoria Schane, Mikayla Brumley and her husband Zane, Quentin Schane, Paetra McCaa and her husband Nathan, Michael Curtis Geiger, Sonja Jo Geiger, and Cecelia Geiger. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will remember his kindness and the warmth he shared so freely.
He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Darlene Winters McCormick; his parents James Anderson McCormick and Edna Isabel Lloyd McCormick; and his siblings Patricia Dianne McCormick, Spencer McCormick, James McCormick, Ray McCormick, and John McCormick.
Billy wished to be remembered simply as someone who made friends wherever he went, a legacy he lived out every day of his life.
