

Ed Clayton was born on April 26, 1950, in Morristown, New Jersey. He was the son of Charles Edward Clayton Sr., and Elsie (Wintermute) Clayton. He grew up in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Ohio. Upon graduation from high school he moved with his family to Norman and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History. In 1975, he began working in the oilfield industry at Core Lab in Oklahoma City. He worked in the lab before going into the field as a mud logger. This position is where he met several of his lifelong friends. In 1986, he worked for Wildcat Well Logging in the field geology department.
He was a big OU sports fan and loved the Chicago Cubs. Chicago was his absolute favorite city and planned numerous annual vacations there to watch the "Cubbies" play. He also was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and the Washington Redskins. In 2010, he became a proud “Opa” to his granddaughter Hayden. Ed’s friends and family were very important to him and many of his friendships extend past forty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Cori Hinkle and husband Damon of Norman; one granddaughter, Hayden Hinkle of Norman; one sister, Robin; and one nephew.
Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, January 4, 2016, at 5:00 pm at the Primrose Funeral Service Chapel. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and share your fondest memories of "Ed."
