David Michael “Dave” Williams, 82, of Norman, Oklahoma, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 21, 2025, in the town where his life began and where his legacy will forever remain. Born March 3, 1943, in Norman, David lived a life marked by faith, hard work, service to others, and deep devotion to his family.
David was the beloved son of Charlie Joseph Williams and Pauline “Polly” Ray Williams and was raised with strong values that guided him throughout his life. A proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1966 and remained a loyal Sooner who enjoyed following OU football over the years.
David honorably served his country in the United States Army from June 1961 to March 1969, achieving the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant while serving in Supply. His military service reflected the discipline, integrity, and strong work ethic that defined him in every season of life.
After college, David moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Judy Carole Swank. They were married on May 27, 1967, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted 58 years. Together they built their first home in Florissant, Missouri, before returning to Norman in 1973 to care for family. Norman remained David’s home for the rest of his life.
A lifelong learner and gifted problem solver, David enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, working on cars, fixing things around the house, and using his hands to help others. Music filled his days, especially gospel music, which reflected his deep and abiding faith. A working man at heart, David found purpose and joy in staying busy and doing meaningful work.
David’s greatest passion was his walk with God. He loved worshipping the Lord and mentoring young men, helping them grow in their faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and lived out his faith daily through quiet service, generosity, and leading by example.
Family was central to David’s life. He and Judy loved opening their home to friends and family, creating a place filled with laughter, love, and lasting memories. He especially cherished time spent with his daughter and grandchildren. After retiring, David considered one of his greatest accomplishments to be helping care for his three grandchildren by driving them to school, attending events, cheering them on at games, and sharing adventures big and small. Being “Papa” brought him immense joy, and his presence in their lives was a gift beyond measure.
David also enjoyed driving, road trips with Judy, camping in their RV, and traveling both across the country and abroad. Wherever he went, he carried his steady faith, kind spirit, and willingness to help.
Professionally, David held leadership roles including serving as a Vice President in the heating and air conditioning industry and later managing hazardous waste disposal for Tinker Air Force Base, where he earned and maintained numerous certifications. He was an active member of the Lions Club, Masons, Shriners, Gideons, and the American Legion, and he served on various professional boards throughout his career.
David is survived by his loving wife, Judy Williams; his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Sue Melsek of Norman, Oklahoma; and his three cherished grandchildren, Tiffany Rachelle Melsek, Ashley Elizabeth Melsek Walker, and David Garrett Melsek. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Polly Williams; his sister, Patricia Williams; and his brother, Gary Paul Williams.
Those who knew David will remember him as a man of God, a devoted husband, a loving father, and an incredibly fun Papa. He will be remembered for his integrity, his tireless work ethic, his willingness to serve, and the care he showed to everyone he encountered. Above all, his life stands as a testimony that faith in God is the foundation upon which everything else is built.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, his wife Judy, his daughter Becky, and Bristol Hospice, for the compassionate care and love shown to David.
Though he will be deeply missed, David’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the faith he modeled, and the family he loved so well.
A visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service, located at 3901 N Flood Ave., Norman, OK, 73069, on Saturday December 27, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
