

First Lt. David Timothy Wright II, died September 14, 2009, while serving his country in Afghanistan. David was born on July 7, 1983 in Norman, Oklahoma to Tim and Michele Wright. David graduated from Moore High School in 2002 where he played football and ran track for the Lions. He went on to attend the University of Oklahoma on a Track scholarship where he was a part of the OU Track team. David graduated in December 2006 with a BA degree in Sociology/Criminology. After graduation from OU he joined the US Army and did his basic training at Fort Benning where he was awarded the Army Achievement Award for Soldier of the Cycle, which is the top soldier of his class. After completing basic training he completed Officer School, at Fort Benning as well. David deployed to Afghanistan on July 21, 2009 as a First Lieutenant of the 2nd Platoon Bravo Company, 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division; Striker Brigade/Combat Team. He was proud to serve his county, and was not afraid to be doing so. However he was looking forward to being able to come back to Oklahoma and follow his father in becoming a Police Officer. He will be remembered as a person who was always looking out for others. He is survived by his parents Tim and Michele of Moore, his uncle Mitchell Scott and his wife Angie of Farmington, MN, cousins Hunter and Hailey Scott. David is preceded in death by his grandparents Betty and Junior Scott and his uncle Michael Scott. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Journey Church in Norman, burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the David T. Wright II Track and Field Scholarship. In care of the University of Oklahoma Foundation, Inc., 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019.A procession will occur from Will Rogers Airport on Monday to the funeral home, for any who would like to be a part of and show their support to the family. The procession will make their way from Will Rogers, east bound on I-240 and then proceed south on Eastern to Indian Hills Rd, where it will go east to Sunnylane and into Norman on Porter.
