Donita C. Martin Turner

Donita was born January 24, 1936 to Lester Benjamin Howell and Helen Constant Howell in Fletcher Oklahoma. In her younger years, she was raised in the Apache area and later the family moved to Norman. She attended and graduated from Norman High School in 1954. The family attended Central Church of Christ and at a youth meeting she met Robert N. Martin. They married October 16, 1954. Together they had five children, Daniel, Janet, Paula, Perry & Norita. Donita was a homemaker until Robert suffered an extensive illness. She went to work for The University of Oklahoma as an accountant for the Bursar’s office in 1965. After Robert’s death in 1978, she worked two jobs to provide and care for her family. Also, took in a foster daughter Delisha Doussett. In 1988 she met the love of her life Marvin R. Turner. They married April 1st, 1988 in Bentonville Arkansas. They resided in Norman until they both retired in 1995. Then to pursue their dream, they moved to their lake house at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. They lived happily for 27 years, where Donita became very involved in the Ivy Bend community. She was president and vice-president of the First Responders booster club, secretary, president and vice-president of the Art Association, secretary for the Fire Auxiliary and the Ivy Bend Fire Department. She was an active member of The Church of Christ in Versailles, Missouri. Never to busy to miss any function, whether it be a food and clothing drive for the youth center or pot luck/chili supper for the booster club. Donita always had a kind word and a smile towards anyone she met. She made many trips back to Norman to visit her family and friends.

Donita is survived by her husband, Marvin R. Turner of the home, two brothers; Dolan Howell and wife Artie of Norman, Derwin Howell and wife Virginia of Joaquin Texas. Children: Daniel Martin and wife Janie, Janet Martin - Green of the home, Paula Gaston of Norman, Perry R. Martin and wife Tara of Norman and Norita Testerman and husband Wayne of Blanchard. Foster Daughter, Delisha Langston of Manhattan Kansas. Five step children, Brenda Lynn and husband Harold of Kansas City, Kansas, Richard Turner of Kansas, Marty McConnell of Mustang, Oklahoma, Shannon McConnell of Norman and Jerry McConnell of Norman. Thirty four grand children and twenty five great grand children.
