Born Margaret Hazel Blanchard, Dr. Margee passed away on March 14th in Bayside, New York from complications of Alzheimer’s. She was a special woman to so many people in this world. Her kindness, empathy, and peacefulness is going to be missed and will live on through all of the family members, students, children, friends, clients and grandchild who received her love. The Margee we knew has been gone for some time.
Her five foot frame didn’t define her strong inner strength, lifelong passion for equality, tolerance, pacifism and the rights of women and children. She loved John Denver, pink and yellow, a day at the beach, and a glass of iced tea.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida to Charles and Ruth Blanchard. She spent her childhood moving from place to place as a military brat. Her undying love for reading helped her to graduate high school at 16 and head to Houston to become a nurse.
Her plans quickly changed to be close to her sister Marie and family in Oklahoma. She continued her education as a Sooner getting degrees from the University of Oklahoma in Sociology, Human Relations, Woman Studies. She headed to become a lady Raider at Texas Tech University where she obtained her Ph.D in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Her early work included helping the Women’s Resource Center in Norman, OK, the Family Therapy Clinic in Lubbock, and the Lubbock County Youth Center (LCYC) where she led programs for anger management and sexual abuse survivor groups, in addition to developing an innovative art-therapy based system which helped adolescents. She established an innovative therapy program at the Southwest Institute for Addictive Diseases, and contributed to the Employees Assistance Program at the Health Science Center for Texas Tech University. Much of her professional career was spent at The Lighthouse Group Home for adolescent boys in Norman. She provided therapy and leadership and was most proud of the men they became.
Becoming a mother was always her highest hope and calling in life. She always showered her children with love and support. This continued with one of her happiest moments later in life was holding and loving her grandson Marcus Ryan.
She is survived by her son Warren Marchessault and his wife, Mary Kidd; daughter Ruth Isaacson, and husband Ed; grandson Marcus Kidd; and grandpup Snoop. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Blanchard, and his wife, Anne. Nieces and nephews, Charles and Kelly Khoutahi, Teresa and Terry Ferrel, Patti and Saeed Ahadizadeh, Julie and Marc Utley, Elizabeth and Ryan Odam. Margee was a second mom to Annie Marchessault and Nicole Nodine. Her love will live on in each of them.
A celebration of Margee’s life will take place on April 19th at 2:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Home in Norman, OK.
Her remains will be scattered in a warm ocean, July 2026.
