I worked for Elton as a financial aids counselor in the late 1960s. He was an enlightened administrator, always looking for ways to help more students with limited resources. I recall the the Will Rogers Foundation had been established to assist “handicapped students.” Because of the expansion of federal programs to aid handicapped persons, the Will Rogers endowment was growing enormously with limited opportunities to award enough funds to keep the principle in check. Elton went before their Board of Directors and successfully made the case that Will Rogers would recognize the concept of economically handicapped students. There is no telling how many hundreds of students he helped with that single act. He was one of a kind. He was always my go-to guy if I needed extra football tickets. At the time I was working for him, he was president of the Norman All Sports Association. He had “connections.” My condolences to Peggy and the family. We have all lost a very special man.

My Uncle Elton was the best! I was not able to see him much over my lifetime, but every time I did, he was so loving and enthusiastic to see me and to spend quality time together with Aunt Peggy. 
He loved OU so much and was so dedicated to their sports games. I always heard about him attending the football games  and basketball games. He was their greatest fan! 
He and my father, Russell, were big teasers and I loved to hear the stories how they teased their sisters all the time growing up. 
I will miss him. And I will always remember when he would answer the phone and say, "Is this Georgia Dee?" Loved this man!!! 

Worked with him in Financial Aid at OU.  He was a pleasure to work with. Very professional and thoughtful.  Very inclusive and caring with minority students.  Praying for your family.  

Shirley and I are deeply saddened to learn that Elton Davis has passed.  My first job following my OU graduation in May 1973 was as a Financial Aid Counselor, I have very fond memories of Elton holding court as OU Director of Financial Aid on the Second Floor of the Carnegiey Building on the North Oval.  He had the most wonderful stories to share about his experiences at OU and the Norman community.  Friendships developed during this time continue today.  Under Eaton’s leadership thousands of OU students received critical financial support to pursue higher education. So many owe Elton Davis an outstanding debt of gratitude for his contributions at OU.  Shirley and my thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with his family and friends.  

I work at Sarkeys Fitness Center on campus. I always loved to see Elton walking my way. We chatted and exchanged stories. HIS stories were the best. My favorite day was when he told me about delivering ice here in Norman. There was a sign in each window stating how much ice to leave. He described cutting it, then would take it right in to the kitchen and pick up a payment left on the table, whether someone was home or not. He was the sweetest and I have missed him every day since he stopped coming here. God bless the family as you remember your loved one. 

My sister and I worked for Mr Davis in the Financial Aid Office at OU in the 80s.  He was so nice and interesting to talk to.  I am so grateful that he attended my retirement party in 2015. It was wonderful to see him again. Always pleasant memories when I think of Mr. D!
