

Johnnie Lewis Mason, 76, long time resident of Norman, died on February 14, in Norman after a long struggle with cancer. Johnnie was born on June 4, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Aubrey Lewis and Martha Dorthea. As a longtime Sooner fan, Johnnie attended OU before joining the Marines. After completing his years of service in the Marines, Johnnie became an Insurance Agent for Farmers Insurance Group, where he provided service for the Norman community for 32 years. After retiring from insurance he resumed his first career as a carpenter and started, “Johnnie’s Remodel and Repair”. Johnnie also found his love for gardening where he grew vegetables to share with his friends and loved ones.
After returning home from the Marines, Johnnie married his first wife, Cecilia Ann Grubbs and had four children. His second marriage began on October 25, 2001 to Linda Sue Hornsby who brought to the marriage two daughters.
Johnnie is survived by his spouse Linda, his children, Sandy and her husband Stephen Smith of Wilmington, North Carolina, Patty and her husband Jim Wall of Broken Arrow, Laura and her husband Mike Denny of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark and his wife Gi Gi Mason of Richardson, Texas, Lorie and her husband Kip Marr of Noble and Darla and her husband Samson Buck of Ardmore. Two sisters, Dorthea “June” and husband Dalton Petty of Norman and Jo Anna and husband Carl Couch of Garland, Texas. His grandchildren Jennifer and her husband Jay Bissette, Grant Smith, Alex Smith, Tricia Wall, James Wall, Mason Denney, Zane Denney, A.J. Mason, Noah Mason, Madi Mason, Logan Russell and Danielle Strawn and great granddaughter to be, Bissette. Johnnie was preceded in death by his mother and father and first wife.
Services are 2pm, Saturday February 19, 2011 at The Alameda Church of Christ in Norman with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 8am to 9pm at Primrose Funeral Service in Norman, family will be receiving friends on Friday from 6pm to 8pm.
