Karen Elaine "Sissy" Lassiter was born on July 7, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Walter Jasper "Junior" Barton and Marilyn Yvonne (Abbott) Barton. Karen spent her life in Moore, Oklahoma, where she embraced every moment with love, laughter, and joy. Known for her love of music, Karen was a devoted fan of Taylor Swift, Adele, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, she loved it all. Her favorite color, blue, symbolized her calm yet vibrant spirit. For Karen, a perfect day meant sharing good food with her family, especially with Jessica and Aiden, whose company she cherished.
Karen was drawn to comedy, and she loved making others laugh with her quirky slang and occasional, unintentional misuse of inappropriate words. Her humor and lightheartedness were just some of the gifts she shared with those around her. Karen taught everyone the importance of unconditional love, being a wonderful mother, a cherished friend, and a beacon of positivity. She will be fondly remembered for the love she poured into every relationship, her excitement for special events, a good plate of food, and, of course, a well-made margarita.
A devoted daughter, Karen loved watching the Food Network and the Hallmark Channel with her mom, “nanny.” No matter what time of day, those channels would always be on her screen, ready to bring a sense of warmth and familiarity to anyone who visited.
Karen’s love for her family, Mickey Mouse, OU football, softball, tennis, the OKC Thunder, and romance novels (especially those featuring a "hot guy") brought her immense joy. She also found great happiness playing Pokémon Go with Aiden and Jessica. Karen built a fulfilling career at OU Dentistry, where she was responsible for over 40 years of oral pathology notes—a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Karen is survived by her beloved daughter, Jessica Hood, and her spouse, Chad, of Moore, Oklahoma; her grandson, Aiden Lassiter, also of Moore; her brothers, David Barton and his spouse, Joni, and Keith Barton, both of Moore; four nieces, two nephews, and numerous other family members and friends who were blessed to know her.
Karen’s warmth, humor, and boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Her memory will live on in the laughter she inspired and the love she shared.
A celebration of life for Karen will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
