Just want to say that I am truly thankful to have so many wonderful memories of this  unique and generous man. It is hard to believe that he's been gone for three years this month. Through his teaching and our personal friendship, Larry will always be a part of my soul. Miss you, my friend! You gave me so very much.

I took classes from him at the University of Washington. He taught me a great deal about 19th century Romantic literature.  


A wonderful man and a fine scholar and  professor. It is a joy to have known and worked with him. I shall miss him deeply.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of such a great man. The university can be an intimidating place, but Dr. Frank was always eager to speak with students, making them feel important and valued. He touched many, many lives. More than once I have made a new friend here in Norman, only to find out that they also knew Dr. Frank. We all loved him dearly. Bizzell Library and the cafe in Barnes and Noble are not the same without him strolling around, grabbing a coffee, and sitting for serious chats about Freud and all things Victorian. It is part of growing older: You realize that someone is gone and there will not be anyone to take that special place in your life. My condolences to the Frank family, especially his wonderful wife, who was always so very kind as well.

Larry was good gas, as the Irish say -- a voluble and amusing talker and a great laugher, appreciative of other people's talk. I'm sad to think the world doesn't hold him any more, and grateful for the times my husband and I shared with him, in Minneapolis, Prairie Farm, and Norman.

Larry was a remarkable man. I met him when I was a student at OU and worked at the campus library's coffee shop. We quickly became friends. To this day, I cherish memories of robust discussions concerning literature, politics, and religion.  Though I was an English Literature major, I was never able to take one of his classes. Still, I received a real education during break periods at work where Larry and I enjoyed a good cup of coffee and one another's company.  Who knew that a mutual admiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle could bring two fellows with such different ideologies and perspectives on life so close together for those few short years? I will always remember him fondly, and am deeply grateful for how he challenged and shaped me as a man. 

Dear Gus,
Larry was a great guy and the two of you were always kind, generous, and warm. I'll miss Larry's enthusiastic greetings and on-going excitement about his research and writing. You thought to invite me to Thanksgiving dinner when you knew I was alone in Norman. In fact, Larry's compassion goes back before he knew you when I was a new young asst. prof. and he and his first wife invited me to dinner.
He had a long, good, productive life with much love  and much to be proud of and so lucky to have you to share it. All I can do is send my heartfelt sympathy and sadness at this loss.
