It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Ellen-Joyce Yoder. Born April 28, 1935 in Toledo Ohio to Arthur and Ethel Porter. She grew up surrounded by those with both profound work ethic and great skill in the culinary arts.
In her younger life she and her mother would enjoy recreating and improving upon the foods they came across. Later in life, taking great pleasure in sharing those skills with those lucky enough to surround her.
She found love in a dance hall with Navy pilot John Elmer Yoder whom she returned to the evening of October 30th 2020.
They married August 18, 1956 in Ohio. It was in Ohio that she started her long-standing healthcare career, but most importantly, began the lives of Diana, John Arthur, Anne, James, Jamie, and Julie, of whom Anne Marie and James Allen have preceded her in death.
Following her husband’s career path, the family moved to Norman where she ultimately found her greatest career successes in owning her own home-health business and opening a locally renowned steakhouse.
Marilyn later in life found the greatest pleasure standing out in social crowds and trying her luck at the local bingo halls.
The grandchildren and great-grandchildren she leaves behind on this earth will always remember her unparalleled talents in a kitchen, if not her competitive nature when the cards and dice came out.
