

Mitchell graduated from Norman High School in 1996 and proudly served his country in the United States Army where he retired as Sgt. First Class. In the Army Mitchell was a cryptologic linguist from 1996-2016. Mitchell received many awards while in the Army, the Afghanistan campaign medal with two stars, Bronze Star, Army Commendation x 3, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal x 6, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal x 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon x 3, Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Nato Medal and the Combat Action Badge. On March 2, 2020 Mitchell and Cynthia were united in marriage. In his free time Mitchell enjoyed reading, storytelling, gourmet cooking and foreign languages. Mitchell will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Mitchell is preceded in death by his father, Johnney Lee Steffes.
Left to cherish the memory of Mitchell are his wife, Cynthia Steffes; mother, Cherry Rachinda (Carter) Bishop; children, Emily Griffith and Michael Griffith; siblings, Johnney Steffes Jr. and spouse Carla Steffes, Rachinda Gibbs and spouse Jason Gibbs and Jarod Bishop; fourteen nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces and nephews along with many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Primrose Funeral Service Chapel with Dean Brookshier officiating. In Lieu of flowers Mitch would want donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Cremation with care will be under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
