Oswaldo was born on January 8, 1952 to Jose Antonio Barrientos and Natalia Hernandez in Guatemala. He spent several years working the line in a factory to support his four children. In his late 20’s, he moved to the US to provide a better life for his family. The family resided in California for several years where he worked in the restaurant business. In the early 1980’s he relocated to the OKC metro area where he met and married Ramona Louise Standsblack. They had one daughter, Sweet Marilyn Barrientos.
Oswaldo spent 4 years loading trucks at the Hiland Dairy in Norman as well as 2 years at the York plant. He found traditional employment boring and longed to work for himself. He spent much of his life doing landscaping, flipping homes and cars, and various other ways that he could provide for his family but also have the freedom and time to do what he loved, spending time with his family and serving his church. In 2006, Oswaldo met the love of his life, Evelyn Morales. They married in 2007 and had two wonderful children together: Linda Linett Barrientos and Dannys Anthony Barrientos.
Oswaldo was a man of many talents. He enjoyed gardening and he was a skilled mechanic who could fix just about anything anyone could break. The two cornerstones of his life were his faith and his family. He was a man of great faith and conviction. He loved to serve God and his fellow believers. A tremendous blessing in his life came 6 years ago when he found a church with a similar vision for Norman’s Hispanic community. The Barrientos family joined the 10th Man Ministry in Norman and Oswaldo became extremely involved in helping this mutual vision become a reality. He was actively involved in the men’s group and was a trusted marriage adviser for new or struggling couples. He also served as an elder and a member of the church Board of Directors. He could always be counted on to assist in any church project. Family was a top priority in his life. He loved hosting family meals and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his wife, kids, and grandkids.
Oswaldo Barrientos left an unmistakable mark on the lives of those he loved. He packed so many wonderful experiences and memories into his short 68 years of life. He was a loving husband, a supportive father, a proud grandfather, a caring brother, a dedicated follower of Christ, and a loyal friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
