Shirley “Shirl” Fay Ross French, 66, of Norman passed away on Friday September 2, 2016 at her home. She was born March 8, 1950 to Pauline Ross. She was the great-granddaughter of John Ross the Chief of the Eastern Cherokee Tribe.
Shirl worked as an LPN for 40 years at Griffin Memorial Hospital. She loved traveling to Vegas, fishing, reading true crime books, and was a phenomenal seamstress specializing in costumes of all kinds. Above all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her children: Jeffrey (Mendy) Slate of Norman; Cynthia Sweatte of Norman; grandchildren: Owen, Landon and Piper Slate, Chris Sweatte, Alyssa (Nick) Brown, Cale Simpson; great-grandson: Ezra Brown; long-time companion: Pat Nuss; many aunts, uncles and cousins
A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date.
