

Wanda Swafford was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 22, 1929 to Frank and Jane Christine Foster. The family moved to Oklahoma City while Wanda was a child, and she graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1947. She worked many years as a secretary and legal secretary, working for Cities Service Gas Company (later Williams Pipeline) until her retirement. After retirement, she served her community through several service organizations, especially Helpline. She died on August 5, 2010 in Norman.
Wanda married Vernon Swafford in Oklahoma City on June 11, 1954 and they spent fifty-six wonderful years raising their family in Oklahoma City. Wanda and Vernon raised two children, a daughter Karen, and a son David, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Wanda also enjoyed traveling the world with Vernon, and her sister Billie, and loved regaling the family of their many adventures and exploits.
She is survived by her husband Vernon, son David and his wife Mary, of Norman, their daughters Shannon Pawley and her husband Travis, of Norman, and Sally Mitzner and her husband Matt, of Dallas, TX, granddaughters Christina Davis and her husband Michael, and their daughter Miranda, of Oklahoma City, Susan Long, of Moore, and Pamela Long, also of Moore. Her daughter, Karen Long, preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bridges of Norman, Inc., 1670 Stubbeman Ave, Norman, OK 73069.
A memorial service will be officiated by the Reverend David Spain, of First Christian Church of Norman and will be held at the Primrose Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010. Services are under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
