Arthur “Red” Chavis, 63, of Summerville passed away peacefully at his residence on March 10, 2015. Red was born on April 7, 1951 in Columbia to Hammond and Eula Mae Chavis. He was a pipefitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Chase and Kimberlee Chavis of North Carolina, and Carolyn Chavis of Summerville; six grandchildren, one brother, Henry Chavis; four sisters, Ann Clark, Janet Pelleum, Betty Jo Stuart, and Bonnie Chavis. Mr. Chavis was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Chavis, Jr. and a brother, Jimmy Chavis. Visitation will take place on this evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
