

Billy was born April 2, 1937 in Alto, Georgia to Grace Alexander. Billy met his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Alexander, in South Carolina where they wed October 6, 1967. Ruth and Billy raised three wonderful sons together; Steve, Curtis, and Jeff. Billy served in the United States Navy for 20 years. He retired from the Naval Supply Center in Charleston, SC. Billy was a lifetime member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #401. He will be remembered as a serious but loving gentleman. He was a talented musician who loved his vinyl records and country music. He enjoyed watching many football games with Ruth, cheering on the Panthers together. His grandchildren hold fond memories of many weekend sleepovers and picking up buckets of gumballs in the backyard. He enjoyed taking them for rides on the “beep, beep.” He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.
Billy is survived by his sons Steve Barnes (Sue) of Burnsville, NC, Jeff Barnes (Connie) of Eutawville, SC. His sister; Virginia Chambers, His aunt; Ruby Dorsey and cousin Katherine Prine, His grandchildren; Charis Stone Racer (Harley), Cassie Barnes, Brandon Barnes (Margaret), and Brittany Garrett (John). His great grandchildren; Baylie Barnes, Caleb Garrett, Ian Garret, River Racer, Ruby Racer, Starling Ruth Racer, Penelope Barnes, and Reed Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Virginia Alexander, mother, Grace Alexander, a son, Curtis Barnes, his aunts and uncles, Rex Ivie, Virgil Ivie, Wilma Ivie, and Lottie Nickelson. As well as loving dog, P-NUT.
A visitation will be held from 1-1:45pm on Sunday, March 25th at Carolina Memorial Park with grave side service to follow at 2pm.
