Daphne McCallum Sides

Family was at the very center of Mom’s life. She poured her heart into caring for her children, grandchildren, and all those lucky enough to be part of her circle. She had a gift for making everyone feel cherished—whether through a warm hug, a home-cooked meal, or a few simple words of encouragement. Her family was her greatest joy, and in return, we adored her more than words can express.

Mom will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her laughter, and the way she made every gathering feel special. She was the one we turned to for advice, comfort, and unconditional love. Her presence filled our lives with warmth, and her absence leaves a hole that can never be filled.

Daphne was preceded in death by her father, Robert Furman McCallum, her mother, Lois Jean McCallum, her brothers Robert Furman McCallum, Gerry Neil McCallum, and her sisters Diane McCallum Grant and Patricia Rose Buckner, her brother in-laws Thomas Henry Grant, Harold Damascas Buckner, and her nephew Michael Harold Buckner.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David P. Sides III, her son, David P. Sides IV and his wife, Dr. Zoe Pogue Sides; her daughter, Suzanne Sides Swindal and her husband, James Ralph Swindal; and her cherished grandchildren, Jackson Pogue, Lindsey Swindal, and Harrison Swindal, who will carry her love and lessons forward in their lives. Though she is no longer with us in person, her love will remain our guiding light forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service at 12 noon on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
