Doris was born in Dillon, SC to the late Robert and Hazel Wise Jackson. She was married to the late Weston Earl James for 56 years.
In her early years, she was a seamstress at Manhattan Shirt Co and Levi Strauss & Co. Later on in her life, she worked in the lunchroom at Alice Burney Middle School and Stall High School. She made lifelong friendships every where she worked and she never met a stranger. Kindness was her strongest attribute.
Doris was creative and talented. Her hobbies included ceramics, gardening, quilting, cooking and coloring. A wonderful memory was when she went on a trip across the country with her
quilting friends and also coloring pictures for friends and family.
The greatest joy in her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The love she had for them was unmeasurable.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Pam Austin of Fernandina Beach, FL; two sons, Kim James of
Branchville, SC and Earl James (Lisa) of Hanahan, SC; a brother, Gene Upton of Latta, SC;
Grandchildren, Heather Austin Gore (Josh), Brad Austin, Tyler James (Katelyn), Dennis James (Keagan), Ethan James, Davin James and Taylor Martin; Great-grandchildren, Cooper Gore, Claire Gore, Weston James and Willow James, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held outside (weather permitting) at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC.
