It's been 3 years. I went to visit you last night. I know you are ok and rejoicing with your 2 daughters and 1 son. I know I a see you again.

Everyone (kids and adults) called her Meme, but she was known to others as Dorothy M. Leon. She got the name, Meme, from me as I stuttered pretty badly as a very young kid. Please pray for my Mom today as she was not allowed to see her prior to her passing, and she won't be able to attend any service that might be held. Hallmark will not allow it. All this due to the Corona Virus and keeping your distance. 
My very best memories of Meme was her taking us 5 grandkids (Donna, Kim, Bubba, Kevin and myself) to her beach house at Bonneau Beach every summer. We would stay for weeks at a time. We always looked forward to getting up around 5:00 each morning so we could run down to the beach and catch some morning waves. SO MUCH FUN BUT SO COLD! The 5 of us were so very close! I was the mean one of the bunch as I always picked on poor little Kim. I was just horribly mean do her. She ran to Meme all the time crying about what I had just done to her. The only thing she ever wanted was to "hang with Donna and me." Donna and I were the oldest of the bunch, and we didn't want some young kid hanging with us. (LOL) Then, there was my brother, Kevin, and Bubba. They were always attached at the hip. They were so close! When we were at the beach house, the 5 of us would make a bed on the floor at night, right next to Meme's bed. Now, we had our own bedrooms, but we always wanted to sleep very near to her. All 5 of us would make that bed and cuddle up to each other at night. We were very young then. We would always want to spend the night with her, whether it was at the beach or at home.

Right before school started each year, Meme would buy us school clothes. 
With Meme, the fun stuff always came after our chores. She would assign us chores in the house and outside in the yard. We  would even have to shuck corn and snap butter beans. We would have to help clean up the yard at home or raking leaves at the beach house. 
Everyone always looked forward to her amazing cooking! Her cooking was far better than any restaurant and far better than anyone else I've ever known. She taught me very early how to cook cleanly and how to keep the kitchen clean. We learned very early that we would have to eat everything on our plates, too. When we were old enough to fix our own plates, she would warn us about making our servings so large. She was there to tell us not to overload on the food as we would have to eat it all or sit at the table until we did. She was SO tough on us when it came time to eat and I'm so glad that she was!
We loved Meme so much and always looked forward to our times together. To us, nothing ever compared to our time with each other.
I have always missed times like these and, after several years passed by, the trips stopped, and she sold her beach house. Even though those things stopped, we still had her cooking on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve to look forward to. We still had our opening gifts on Christmas Eve. Anytime she would call to tell us she cooked, we were there!
We always cherished those times together with Meme. We were so close to her and to each other.  As the years passed by, we had our own families and kids. Her house became small after that, but it never kept us away from her or each other. You see, Meme's house became the "catching up place" with each other. We would reminisce about all the good times, but we never got away with leaving any food on our plates. 
These memories and many more will stay in my heart for as long as I live. I loved her and very much loved the  "5".
May Meme rest in the arms of our Lord.

I remember doing something bad and running to hide behind a chair in the living room. No chair could ever stop my Meme. One time, she grabbed the hair on my head and pulled me out from behind it. Then she would get me with the frying pan to my but! I absolutely deserved it, though. There are so many other memories. I will never forget them!

I'm going to miss MIMI. I remember as a kid getting together with the rest of the family and all my cousins on Thanksgiving and Christmas. MIMI and Aunt Ann would cook all us up dinner. We would open up presents and MIMI always had the best gifts. Unfortunately, the Lord called her home and I know she is ok.  I did miss some time with MIMI as I got older with work etc. I know I can cherish the time we spent together and I know she loved the Lord a lot. This isnt goodbye. This is see you soon! Our life on earth is temporary and soon we will see the Glory of God again and I know I will see my MIMI again and she will be young again. To the rest of our family I love you.
