Eleanor was born February 18, 1935, in Leesburg, SC, daughter of the late Winslow Davidson Burgin and Ethel Roberts Burgin. She moved to Charleston when she was in the sixth grade and graduated in 1953 from North Charleston High School. She married the love of her life, Cary in 1955 and lived the majority of their married life in West Ashley. They took part in organizing Covenant Presbyterian Church, which later became Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was still a member. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years. After a refresher course at Palmer Business School, she worked part time at Westvaco and then Prudential Insurance. She eventually started full time work for heart surgeons Locklear, May, and Chariker, as a bookkeeper, retiring after nineteen years. She loved the job and felt that it was her calling.
Eleanor and Cary bought a house on Folly Beach in 1977, where they loved entertaining family and friends. After Hugo destroyed the house in 1989, it was rebuilt in 1991 and sold in 2000. The beach house was a very integral part of the lives of the entire family, and provided great memories. Being retired, they enjoyed working in the yard, bowling, Bridge, and church. They also enjoyed extensive traveling. She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and made many lifelong friends with her sorority sisters. She enjoyed spending time with her children and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eleanor moved to the Village at Summerville in 2013 after the death of her husband, Cary. She enjoyed singing in the choir, working in the library, playing cards, exercise, and water aerobics. She made many friends and made it her mission to welcome new residents and make them feel comfortable.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Cary T. Grayson, Jr. (Marsha), Carol Buddin, eight grandchildren, Al Buddin (Leslie),
Stephen Buddin, Jr. (Amber), Grayson Buddin, Dr. Cary Grayson III, Michael Grayson, David Grayson, Jr. (Kristen), Jessica Riley (Jeffrey), and Andrew Grayson. Six great grandchildren, Adelaide Buddin, Gideon Buddin, Liam Buddin, Ruby Buddin, Skyler Riley, and Brayden Riley, daughter-in-law Lesa Grayson, special friend and sister-in-law Harriet Brumett (Carl), and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son David Grayson, sisters Helen Varn and Barbara Wyatt, and son in law Steve Buddin.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Village at Summerville for their loving care and Agape Hospice for their assistance with her healthcare over the last month.
