Funeral services will be held on May 2, 2026, at Carolina Memorial in North Charleston, South Carolina. The visitation will begin at 1:00pm with a celebration of life and funeral services at 2:00pm.
Florence was born in Greeleyville, South Carolina to Isaac and Daisey Hughes on November 4, 1932. She lived a life defined by her deep devotion to her family and the people she loved. Alongside her husband, Mac Carson, she helped build Carson Agency, where she worked as a property manager. While she was dedicated to her work, her greatest and most cherished role was being “Mema.” She spent the majority of her life caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always showing up for every awards ceremony, sporting event, and moment that mattered most.
She was happiest when she was hosting holidays with her entire family, creating a home that brought everyone together. She loved working in her yard, staying active, and caring for those around her. Whether it was a meal or a place to gather, Mema was always there. She also enjoyed walking her beloved dog, Charlotte, and continued to live a life of movement and independence well into her later years.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Daisy Hughes; her husband, Mac Carson; her daughters, Stacie Carson and Edie Carson; her son-in-law, Craig Sineath; her great-granddaughter, Ellie Lyell; and her sister, Arrie Holt.
She is survived by her son, Milton Carson; her daughter, Brenda Carson; her sisters, Faye Davis and Runette Louthian; as well as eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom lovingly knew her as “Mema.”
She was the epitome of strength and resilience, wrapped in love, and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bayada Hospice.
