Gratten Tresvant "G.T." Lane went to be with our Lord on December 27, 2018. G.T. was predeceased by Rose Lane, the love of his life. G.T. is survived by one brother Jim (Sue) Lane, one sister (Lois) Bob Hansen, one daughter Angie (Tim) McKissick, one son Glenn, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
G.T. was born June 18, 1924 in Zion, SC to Benjamin and Ruth Lane. G.T. served his country honorably in WWII and the Korean War in the United States Navy. After military service G.T. settled in Hanahan, SC and had a long career at Mead Westvaco and retired in 1986 as a supervisor.
G.T. was a charter member of Remount Baptist Church and cherished his work and fellowship with his church family
G.T. loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and farming. He was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan and always enjoyed watching a good baseball game, even in his later years. G.T.'s passion was bluegrass music. Other than his love for Rose and his love for Christ, bluegrass was his passion. For over 40 years, G.T. was a mainstay at Guy and Tina's Picken Parlor in Bethea, SC. G.T. was known throughout the world for his magnificent fiddle playing and surprised most people to know that he was self-taught. His always anticipated and requested magical rendition of the "Orange Blossom Special" made a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of everyone who got to witness and experience it.
G.T. loved his family, his church family and of course his bluegrass family. He loved to entertain no matter if it was with his music, quick wit or his contagious smile. To everyone that knew him please know he got as much enjoyment entertaining you as you did enjoying him. Sadly missed, he is now fiddling for Rose and God.
A special thanks and gratitude go out to all the nurses, techs, Doctors and therapists at Life Care of Charleston, The Veteran's Victory House and Patriot Hospice. And to his self-adopted daughter Debbie Zeigler and his special niece, Becky Gadry and multitude of thank you's and gratitude for all your special care.
