

Harriet was born on October 9, 1940, in Lake City, SC to the late Wyman and Bessie (Wells) Cockfield.
Harriet was a proud graduate of North Charleston High School, Class of 1958. She was known for her industrious spirit, determined nature, and self-sacrificing love for others.
Throughout her life, Harriet held many roles, including florist, real estate agent, bank teller, telephone operator, and office worker. In each position, she worked with dedication and care.
She will be most remembered for her devotion to her family and her diligence in caring for five generations, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.
In addition to her dedication to family, Harriet had a strong interest in politics, public policy, and social issues. She was also an accomplished painting artist, expressing her creativity through her work.
Her life was a testament to hard work, compassion, and unwavering commitment to those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, Wyman and Bessie Cockfield.
Harriet is survived by her beloved husband, Johnnie M. Thomas, Sr.; her son, John M. Thomas, Jr.; her sister, Joan Cockfield Chaplin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2026, with a Memorial Service immediately following at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
