Hazel McGee Blackwell, 95, of Hanahan, SC passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She joins the love of her life and husband of 61 years, John Edward Blackwell Senior.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 25th, from 1PM to 2PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral services will be Friday, February 25th at 2PM.
Hazel was born on May 8th, 1926 in Darlington, SC, the daughter of the late Robert Jesse McGee Senior and Winnifred Mae Sauls. She had a long career having worked for Gulf Oil, Hewitt Oil, and as the secretary, bookkeeper, and owner of Blackwell and Sons Real Estate and Insurance. She loved visiting the mountains, spending time at the lake, and planning family vacations. In recent years she happily spent her days watching Westerns and drinking coffee with her granddaughter and best friend, Madison and all of her family. Traveling and spending time with her large family were a joy to Hazel’s life. Every holiday was spent celebrating together in the Blackwell home.
She is survived by her three children, Beverly Blackwell Moore (Jan), John Edward Blackwell Jr. (Kathy), and William Elias Blackwell Sr.(Linda Gail). She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Felicia Brown, Wendy Bullington (Charlie), David Moore (Victoria), Jessi Satterfield, Jessica Blackwell (Curtis), William Blackwell (Beth), Madison Blackwell (Ravan), and her great grandchildren, Walker and Bella Brown, Eli, Luke, and Celia Bullington, Lily and Wade Moore, and John, Ryan, and Emma Blackwell, all of whom lovingly called her “Mema”. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Albert Elijah McGee, Helen McGee Bodie, Robert Jesse McGee Jr., and survived by her brother Joseph Leslie McGee, with whom she talked to every morning. She had many friends too numerous to name.
