

He moved to Charleston at age 3. Living there for 23 years, then moved to Hanahan, SC for the next 67 years.
Ed served in the Army and Navy during WWII and Korean War. He was a Tugboat Captain with the Army Depot and Global Associates. He was a volunteer Fireman for the Hanahan Fire Department. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and working in his Ed Shed.
He was a member of Ferndale Baptist Church since it originally began. Then he was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Usher at both churches and gave many hours of volunteer work.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Doris Hardin Strickland; his parents, Robert L. Strickland and Ethel D. Strickland; a brother, Robert L. Strickland; two sisters, Ernestine S. Tuttle, Barbara S. Smith and a granddaughter, Tuesday A. Weatherford.
He is survived by three sisters; Betty S. Keller, Doris S. Carlton and Louise Rodgers. His three children; Glenn A. Strickland, of Round O, SC, Gail S. Weatherford (Woody), of Ladson, SC and Mark E. Strickland (Bobbi), of Lancaster, SC. He also has 7 grandchildren; who knew him by the name of Captain Sweet, Strick and beloved Baddaddy. Rachel S. Nelson (Michael), Luke A Strickland, Tuesday A. Weatherford (deceased), Jana W.Debney (Joe), Jillian W. Lewellyn (Jonathan), Carly D Strickland and Jeff E. Strickland. He also had 8 great grandchildren; Jamine N. Chance-Strickland, Tessa M. Nelson, Joseph Debney II, James E. Debney, Abigail L. Debney, Dayton N. Lewellyn, Finn W. Lewellyn and Greenleigh E. Lewellyn. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In his later years, Ms. Nellie Jones was his Devoted Companion and Caregiver. They were often seen at Bettis Boat Landing, sharing stories with friends and looking out for each other in their twilight years. The Strickland Family will always cherish their relationship and continued support she provided for 20 years.
Family and Friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Saturday March 13, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Highland Baptist Church on Murray Drive, Hanahan, SC. The Funeral Service will follow from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
