Hubert was born on January 30, 1948, in the British West Indies on the island of Trinidad. His birth abroad was a result of his father’s military service, and the family would later relocate back to the United States. He was born to Bertram Murdock and Sheila Grant Murdock.
After returning to the U.S., Hubert grew up in South Carolina, graduating from Hanahan High School. He went on to attend Charleston Southern University and later earned a master’s degree, always valuing education and growth.
Hubert followed a path of service like his father. He served with honor and eventually retired as an officer from the United States Air Force. Following his military career, he worked as a manager at Tandy Corporation, bringing the same integrity and dedication to his civilian life.
A man of faith, Hubert served as a deacon in his home church, formerly located in West Ashley, SC, offering support, care, and guidance to his church community.
In his earlier years, Hubert loved boating and spending time on the water. As years passed, his interests shifted toward technology—he became an avid collector of computers and electronics, always learning, tinkering, and staying curious.
Those who knew Hubert would say he was warm, kind, gentle, attentive, and hardworking. In the last decade of his life, he devoted himself lovingly to caring for his mother, a testament to his deep sense of duty and love for family.
He is survived by his two brothers, three nephews, two nieces, and his two beloved canine companions—a faithful Labrador and a spirited long-haired Chihuahua. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at Carolina Memorial Gardens (weather permitting), Hubert will be laid to rest thereafter with full military honors.
Hubert’s life was shaped by service, care, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family, his faith, and his country. He will be greatly missed and warmly remembered.
