He was born on May 10,1950 in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Ambrose and Violet Furmanek. Jim graduated from Wausau High School and had a distinguished 20 year career in the Air Force.
Upon retirement, he worked an additional 20 years with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing with focus on building, launching, and maintaining the C17 Globemaster.
Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz), sisters Bridget Litza, Shirley Van Slate (husband Jim Ludwig), brother John (wife Nola), and four nieces and nephews.
Jim's greatest joys were driving his Corvette, playing golf, and watching the Packers and Brewers on his giant TV.
In accordance with his wishes, Jim will be buried in Wausau. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
