John Edward Craven Jr.

John Edward Craven Jr. GOOSE CREEK - John E. Craven Jr. of Goose Creek, SC entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 7, 2016. Johnny was born on October 18, 1941 in Charleston County and was the son of John E. Craven Sr. and Lizzie Grooms Craven. He graduated from North Charleston High and obtained a BS at the Charleston Southern University (Baptist College). He worked at both the Charleston Naval Base and Naval Weapon Station before retiring from the Civil Service in 1972. He became involved in real estate and residential constructions before finally retiring. His pastimes were golfing, dancing and coaching. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren excel in sports. He was a very outgoing and social person, who loved to entertain both family and friends. He always had a smile and a quick sense of humor. Through the years, he was involved with various clubs and organizations: Charleston Elks Club, Folly Beach Shag Club and Hammerton Lodge #332. He was a Baptist and attended several local churches. Johnny was survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Grooms Craven; two daughters, Dana M. Crocker (Jimmy) of Moncks Corner, Cassandra Craven Liston of Goose Creek and a son, John E. Craven III (Kimberlee) of North Charleston; five grandsons, Sean Fisher, David and Evan Blackmon, Harrison and Hayes Craven; one great-grandson, Beckham Gallik. He was predeceased in death by his parents; sister, Loretta O’Quinn; and grandson, Wade Blackmon. Memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday at Carolina Memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Diabetes Association.
