

Juanita Newell Maranville 85 of Charleston, S.C. died Friday, September 19th, 2014 at St Francis Hospital surrounded by family. She was born January 1,1929 in Johnsonville, SC to the late John Marion Newell and Tulah Hughes Newell. She grew up in Hemingway, SC. After graduating from Hemingway High School in 1945, she attended Winthrop University. She moved to Charleston, SC and was married for 22 years to the late James J. Maranville. Juanita was a long standing member and Lay Pastor of St Mark United Methodist Church. She retired from the federal government, Naval Electronic Systems Command in 1991. She loved shopping, cooking, baking and watching Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor. She was kind and very generous. What she loved most was spending time with family and keeping up with everyone on her own Facebook page. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. Juanita is survived by her daughter Jae M. Kniffin of Charleston: her grandchildren: Susan Watson Kniffin (Travis) of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Chandler Kniffin (Laurie), Davis Kniffin, Savannah Porter, Miles Schweikart of Charleston, SC, Great grandchildren: James Watson, Kaleb Watson, Lily Watson of Camp Lejeune, N.C. and Jonah Kniffin of Charleston, S.C. She was looking forward to the birth of her 5th great grandchild Hadleigh Rose Kniffin due Oct 1st. She was the oldest of 9 children and is survived by Mary L. Coughlin of St. Augustine, FL, Vesta Woodfield and Wilma Legretha Jackson of James Island, S.C., Norma Jean Peterson of Fort Worth Texas,Talou Altman of Hemmingway, S.C. and Genevieve Owens of Sumpter, S.C. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Susan M. Porter, son: James J. Maranville Jr., sister: Beverly Ann Boswell of Branford, FL and her brother: John M. Newell Jr. of Lake City, S.C. The family will receive family and friends at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, September 26th from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27th at 1pm at St Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Ave., Interment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Ashley River Road.
