

Larry Douglas Simensen, 74 of Summerville, SC, went home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2018. Born in Washington D.C. on September 21, 1944, he graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962. He married Phyllis Jean Armstrong on August 8, 1965 and shared 53 years with his beloved spouse. During this time, they were blessed with three daughters, Connie Jean (Aaron) Swann, Deanna Lynn Simensen, Jeanette Marie (Robert) Smeltzer. Following retirement from the Air Force in 1982, he attended Bible college at Tennessee Temple. Upon graduation he served as a Missionary to the Military with BIMI (Baptist International Missions Inc. out of Chattanooga, TN) for 29 years, spending time in Puerto Rico and Germany. Declining health brought him back to the States where he continued to serve in nursing home ministry. His dedication to the Lord touched the lives of numerous Servicemen and women and their families. He set the example of a believer for his family including four granddaughters, Concetta Swann, Kristen Smeltzer, Alyssa Swann and Amber Smeltzer. He dedicated his life to Missions, Family, Military, and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Boston Celtics and Texas Rangers.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, 7800 Northside Drive, North Charleston, SC. His Funeral Service will be held at the church on Friday 10am with Interment to follow at Beaufort National Cemetery.
