LaVerne Cope Sauls

Relatives and friends of LaVerne Sauls are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of service on Tuesday.

LaVerne was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on February 19, 1926. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Myrtle Cope. She attended Rosemont Elementary and North Charleston High School. LaVerne worked at Western Union Telegraph on Meeting Street from 1943 – 1956, and the Charleston Naval Shipyard from 1956 – 1991 (retired). After retirement, she volunteered at Roper Hospital Downtown Charleston.

She split her time between her home on Shawnee Street and her lake house in Moncks Corner, eventually moving full time to her home on the lake. She enjoyed doing yard work, caring for her plants and spending time at the lake with her children and grandchildren. The home in Moncks Corner is known by all the family as “Mama’s Place”.

LaVerne is survived by her children, James E. Sauls, Jr. (Patty), Ronald W. Sauls (Kathy), Lynn Bowers (Steve) and Scott Alan Sauls (Margaret); Eight Grandchildren, Lisa Patel, Shannon Lefko (Ben), Ron Sauls Jr. (Jinny), Regi Sauls (Charlotte), Clint Bowers (Kari), Perry Bowers (Jessica), Ryan Pope (Robin), Eryn Chilton (John); 13 Great Grandchildren, Ellen Guilford, Bonner Guilford, Myranda Sauls, Mason Sauls, Reese Bowers, Sawyer Bowers, Landon Bowers, Chase Bowers, Emmi Bowers, David Pope, Hannah Pope, Tupper Sauls and Hazel Sauls as well as her nephew, Billy Sauls (Leah). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Sauls Swindler.
