

Mary was born in Bamberg, SC on March 4, 1940 to Gideon P. Templeton and Fannie Gardner Templeton. She attended schools in Blackville, SC.
Mary was an assistant to the Clerk of Court in the newly formed City of North Charleston in the 1970s. She later retired in the late 1980s as the Clerk of Court for the City of Goose Creek. She also enjoyed working for Acosta for a short period after her retirement.
Mary was a faithful Christian servant who loved her Savior, and strived to live out her faith in obedience to the Lord’s commands. She served her church family, giving of her time and talents for over 40 years at Rhett Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Lake Marion Baptist Church, and at Hillcrest Baptist Church for the last 20 years.
Mary was devoted to her family, and especially a loving Mema to her grandchildren, and countless other young people who affectionally knew her as “Mema” or “Mrs. Mary”. She always had a kind heart, and was willing to help wherever she could. She spent many years volunteering with the Cooper River Playground in their Camp High Hopes and YAP programs, as well as the Police Cadet Program in North Charleston. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and making crafts for family and friends and her young people.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ellie William (Bill) Weatherford; a daughter, H. Victoria (Vicki) Williams (James, Jr) of Summerville, SC; two sons, Richard E. (Rick) Weatherford, Sr. (Evonne) of Summerton, SC, and Keith W. Weatherford (Kathy) of Summerville, SC. 7 Grandchildren: Jacki W. Bowers, Richard E. Weatherford, Jr., William B. Weatherford, Devin J. Williams, Michael K. Weatherford, Shaun P. Weatherford, and Camryn F. Weatherford; and several great grandchildren.
Mary is also survived by a brother, Franklin T. Templeton (Chloe) of West Columbia, SC; two sisters, Nellie T. Bodenhamer (Larry) of Lexington, SC, and Betty T. Owens (Jerry) of Elon, NC: and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was pre-deceased by her son, Donald Wayne Weatherford (Kim); her brother, Joe M. Templeton, Sr.; and her sisters, Marion T. Wadford and Thelma T. Latham.
Services for Mary will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3595 Ashley Phosphate Rd, North Charleston, SC 29418. A Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
