Mildred Frontice Dyches, 93, of Hanahan entered into peace on January 22, 2015. Mrs. Dyches was born April 20, 1921 in Blythe, GA to Howell Christian Still and Katie Wade Still. The family moved to Hilda, SC where she attended school and played basketball. She loved basketball and always told the story about playing on a clay half-court and scoring 76 points in one game. After marrying, Mrs. Dyches and her husband moved to North Charleston and finally settled in Hanahan to raise their three children. Mildred loved children and retired from the Berkeley County School System as the lunchroom manager at Hanahan High. She was a charter member of Highland Park Baptist Church and served her church family faithfully in many capacities, such as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, WMU President, and participated in a ladies circle. She was also involved in the Senior luncheons held once a month at the church. Mildred never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone, and loved by all. Towards the end of her journey you could hear her singing her favorite church hymns. She will be sadly missed by friends and family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she was their “Me-Ma”. She is survived by her daughter, Roxy Robinson-Kinsey; three granddaughters, Karen Murray (Mark), Kim Pond (Chris), and Katie Barthel (Aaron); nine great-grandchildren, Jacob and Payne Murray, Ashley and Vance Rowell, Jace and Kylie Pond, Avery, Hanes and Bowen Barthel. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Betsy Jones of Columbia, SC and nephews, Donnie and Chris Delk. Mrs. Dyches was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Aiken Dyches, Jr.; two sons, Timothy “Tim” Wade Dyches and Daniel “Danny” Aiken Dyches, III, as well as her four siblings and their spouses. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank Martha Clark for all the loving care that was given to Me-Ma. Also to the wonderful staff at Pinewood House where she resided until the very end of her life’s journey. A special thanks also goes to Gentiva Hospice for making her journey peaceful. Her journey was like a ship in the night, she did it “her way”. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.carolinamemorial.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Midway Baptist Church in Goose Creek.
