Rebecca McDonald

Rebecca was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 5, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Albert A. Weber, Mary G. Hayes and Edward Gilkey.

Rebecca (“Becky”) referred to her younger years as being a navy brat, as she lived in various places, but Charleston was her home where she grew up and raised her family. She graduated from Bishop England High School, Class of 1958, and attended St. Francis Xavier Hospital School of Nursing, as well as Palmer School of Business. On July 1, 1959, Rebecca married John C. McDonald (“Dickie”). She worked as a Team Leader for Avon for many years while the kids were in school. As her kids reached high school and college, she went to work and eventually started and owned an industrial sales company, leading her to retirement.

Rebecca had a strong passion for her Catholic faith and was seldom without her Rosary. She always had quick-wit and told stories of humor. She loved to draw, write and sew. Rebecca found comfort in speaking of her parents and sisters, her childhood, her children and grandchildren and her loving puppies, Ginger and Molly.

In addition to her loving husband of more than 60 years, Rebecca is survived by sons, John McDonald Jr. (Charla) and Tom McDonald Sr. (Debi); daughter, Mary McDonald Flynn (Luke); grandchildren, Tamara Meyer (Michael), Joey McKinney, Tommy McDonald Jr., Jessica McDonald, Tonya Lee, Ashley McDonald, Breanna McDonald Areson (Troy), Noah Flynn, Rebecca Flynn, and Hayes McDonald; great grandchildren, Jackson , Gabriel and Caleb Meyer; sisters, Claudia Richardson (Brad, deceased) and Laurie Johnson (Steven) and beloved dogs, Ginger and Molly.

The family invites guests to visit on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel at 1:00pm. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Park.
