It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Reynaldo Abad Ignacio, who left us peacefully in his sleep on January 21, 2026, at the Davis and McDaniel Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, Virginia, surrounded by family. Born in Naic, Cavite, Reynaldo lived a full and remarkable life, filled with service, family, and craftsmanship.
Reynaldo was born in Naic, Cavite, Philippines, on October 9, 1931, to Simeon Ignacio and Maria Abad. He graduated from Arellano High School in Manila, Philippines, in April 1952, and shortly thereafter, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1955 at Naval Station Sangley Point in Cavite City. His military career was one of dedication and honor, having served for 20 years and retiring as Chief Hull Technician on the USS ORION (AS-17) at Naval Base Charleston, South Carolina, in May 1975. During his time in the Navy, Reynaldo showcased his exceptional talents, advancing through the ranks and earning numerous accolades, including the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Second Class Diver and the Navy Unit Commendation and serving in the Navy Seabees with Mobile Construction Battalion Forty (MCB 40) for 2 tours in Vietnam.
On August 19, 1957, Reynaldo married the love of his life, Maria Consuelo Datwin Mupas, in Aringay, La Union, Philippines. Their union, which lasted 55 beautiful years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Reynaldo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, and he carries with him the memories of a lifetime shared together.
Reynaldo was a proud and loving father, survived by six children: his sons Rey M. Ignacio, Roy M. Ignacio and Roland M. Ignacio; daughters Windelina I. Wilson, Allyson I. Giese, and Annie I. Johnson. Reynaldo was also a doting grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Matthew Wilson, Irene Whelan, Ariel Earhart, Courtney Louiselle, Renny Ignacio, Allen Ignacio, Dominic Ignacio, Georgia Ignacio, and Charlie, Marianna, Michael, and Peter I. Johnson. His eight great-grandchildren - Christopher, Kayleigh, Remi, Lincoln, Wayne, Clyde, Eloise and Carina - carry his family forward.
Reynaldo will be particularly remembered for his exceptional woodworking skills. A self-taught and ingenious master craftsman, he dedicated his talents to the Immaculate Conception Parish in Goose Creek, South Carolina, where he produced over 75 major pieces, including the Altar, Ambo, Confessional, and the Blessed Sacrament Tabernacle as well as building remarkable furniture pieces for his family and friends over the course of more than four decades. His handiwork not only reflects his skill but also his deep faith and commitment to God, His Church and family.
Reynaldo was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he achieved the honor of a 4th Degree Knight, exemplifying his dedication to service.
As we bid farewell to Reynaldo Abad Ignacio, we remember a man whose life was a tapestry of service, love, and craftsmanship. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit and the love he cultivated within his family will endure forever.
