

Richard Daniel Michael Miles Jr, age 77, of North Charleston, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 12, 2025, at 7:52pm. He was born in Seattle, WA on June 7, 1947, to the late Richard D. and Virginia (Andrews) Miles.
Richard grew up in Burien, Washington and graduated from Highline High School. Later he joined and served in the United States Navy from October 28, 1965, until October 27, 1971. During his Naval Career he was stationed on the U.S.S. THOR and served 2 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. While in the middle of his service in the Navy, Richard met the love of his life who became his wife of 55 years. Richard attended Virginia Tech from 1972 to 1976 where he received his Education Degree. During his life he worked many trades, including 35+ years at Boeing (in Seattle and in Charleston, SC), and several other Aerospace Companies. He also was a mail carrier, a teacher, built houses, and worked on vehicles. One of his many joys was helping others out, whether it was building a room, fixing a roof, or fixing an engine, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved telling stories to all that would listen and found solace in fishing during his spare time.
Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara (Higgins) Miles; son, Bryan, daughter Ruth, and second son, Braedyn; three sisters Chris Logue, Tyra Winegar, Diane Waller, and brother Michael Miles. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Higgins Chase and brother-in-law Gary Higgins. As well as the many nieces and nephews. Richard will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Zachery, Luke, Lindsey, Rylee-Grace, Benjamin, and Emelia; and great-grandchildren: Sevenity, Zanovia, Palmer, and Lillyana. As well as the many adopted kids and grandkids in his life.
Richard is preceded in death by parents Richard D. Miles Sr. and Virginia (Andrews) Miles.
Richard was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He was a Christian who loved life and helping those in need. He will truly be missed and always remembered by those who knew him.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Summerville Agape Hospice House. For all that they do; for the care and love they show to their patients while staying at the Hospice House. Their compassion did not go unnoticed and is deeply appreciated.
A visitation will be held from 1 – 2PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, with a celebration of life service to follow in the chapel at 2PM, located at 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. An inurnment with military honors will take place at a later date.
