

Roy “Rocky” Allen Connolly N. CHARLESTON – Roy Allen Connolly, age 66, of North Charleston has passed away peacefully at home after a 4 year battle with cancer. Mr. Connolly was born in North Charleston a son of the late Leroy and Ethel Mabel Mintz Connolly. Mr. Connolly attended Charleston Schools. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Communion in Charleston. Prior to retirement he served as a two tour Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army and was employed by the Charleston Fire Department forfive years before transferring to the Naval Base/Weapons Station where he retired as a Captain after 32 years of service. He also worked many years during retirement for Myatt Heating and Air as well as Berkeley Heating and Air. Mr. Roy Connolly was a devoted father and loved by every soul he touched during his years on this earth. He was a mentor to some, a Brother to others and a father to many. He is survived by his longtime companion and care taker Joan Hilbourne and by two brothers, Huey Connolly and his wife Helen Connolly, Timothy Connolly of North Charleston as well as five sisters. Carol Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Victoria Marie (Dee Dee) Bell and her husband Ronald Bell of North Charleston, Joyce Powers and husband Jerry Powers of St. George and Becky Foiles of Ladson. Mr. Roy Connolly is also survived by two step daughters and three step sons. Cathy Rodman of Florida, Maria Murphy of Summerville, Ricky Hillbourne, Bobby Hillbourne of North Charleston and Jerry Hillbourne of Florence. Mr. Connolly also of Florence. Mr. Connolly also leaves behind 17 grandchildren as well as 20 great-grandchildren. He also wanted to recognize his special loyal K9 friend of twelve years, his best buddy Snoopy. Services for Mr. Roy Connolly’s funeral will be held at the Chapel at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC 29406. Wake will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services for Mr. Roy Connolly will be held Friday June 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
