Born on November 6, 1943, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Susie was the daughter of the late Monnie Edmund Morris and Lula Bell Williams Morris. On February 21, 1961, she married the love of her life, Charles D. McCormick, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned more than six decades.
Susie was one of eleven children and cherished her large family deeply. She is survived by her sisters, Virgie Craven, Louise Ahlers, Virginia Morris, Jean Morris, and Lisa Morris; and her brothers, Monnie Morris and Jimmy Morris. She was preceded in death by her brothers Monroe Morris, Mack Morris, and Henry Morris.
She was a loving mother to her two daughters, Deborah Ann Geddings and her husband Rusty of Sumter, South Carolina, and Karen Lynn Holliday and her husband Preston of Kingsland, Georgia. Susie took great pride in her family and was a devoted grandmother to Travis Feagin (Katrina) of Harleyville, South Carolina; Michael Holliday (Hannah) of Salem, Alabama; and Stephanie Clark (Clay) of Kingsland, Georgia. Her joy multiplied with the blessing of nine great-grandchildren: Payton Feagin, Morgan Martin, Ryann Martin, Ezra Contreras, Kinley Clark, Ava Holliday, Channing Clark, Isla Holliday, and Elijah Holliday.
Susie was known for her generous heart and her love of bringing family together. She delighted in hosting gatherings where laughter, food, and love were always abundant. A longtime member of Wassamassaw Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, Susie faithfully served in the nursery and the church kitchen for many years, continuing until her health no longer allowed her to do so.
She also had a deep love for flowers and gardening. Susie found joy in tending her plants and often uprooted them to share with family and friends—a living reminder of her giving spirit. Many of her treasured plants began as sprigs from her mother’s yard, carrying forward a legacy of love and family.
Susie will be remembered for her kindness, her faith, and her unwavering love for those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Wassamassaw Baptist Church for their love, prayers, and support during this time of loss. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
