Mr. Walter J Gerken Sr.

Born November 30, 1932 in Charleston SC, Walter was the son of Adolph Andrew Gerken and Rotha Amelia Murrell Gerken. He graduated from Murray High School and was drafted into the Army where he served in Europe. He returned home where he worked as a shipping clerk at Westvaco for 39 years. He was an avid and lifelong Atlanta Braves fan.

Walter is survived by son, Walter (Wally) J Gerken, Jr (Dawn); daughter, Wendy G. Dority (Tom); grandchildren, Ryan Gerken and Laura Gerken, and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Wanda, Walter is predeceased by a great grandchild; brother Adolph and his sisters Eunice and Virginia.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. Walter’s funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 4, 2022 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
