The family will receive friends Sunday, May 22nd, from 4 to 6pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. Durr was born December 5, 1927 in the Garco Village in North Charleston, the son of the late Laz Roscoe Gooding and the late Lucille Priester Gooding. He graduated from North Charleston High School where he played baseball, basketball and football, and was the star of the famous Peanut Bowl game of 1948. He then played football and baseball at Clemson University. After serving in the US Air Force, he went to work in the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1955 and retired in 1986. He met Pat in 1955 and they were married six months later. They loved each other for fifty eight years and had four children, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and immeasurable happiness together. Durr loved spending time camping and fishing with his family. He wore many hats; electrician, plumber, home remodeler, general repair man. We grew up believing that there was not anything our daddy couldn’t do. He was a totally selfless person and the best husband, father and grandfather a person could imagine. He is survived by his four children, Sharon O’Quinn (Keith) of North Charleston, Hal Gooding (Melanie) of Mt. Pleasant, Lori Roszell (Kenny) of Aiken and Susan Yarbrough of North Charleston; eight grandchildren Jennifer Roszell of Aiken, Jessica Miller (Justin) of Jacksonville, NC, Adam Gooding of Mt. Pleasant, Amanda Yarbrough of North Charleston, Kristen Roszell of Raleigh, NC, Andrew Gooding of Mt. Pleasant, Sarah Gooding of Mt. Pleasant and Tyler Yarbrough of North Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Daylen Dicks of Aiken and Lola Miller of Jacksonville, and many beloved family members.
