

William Rutland, husband to Margaret Carolyn Rutland, was a hard-working and faithful resident of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on February 6, 2026 surrounded by his family at the age of 83. Born on May 21, 1942.
William lived a life marked by dedication and loyalty.He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment and steadfast spirit. His infectious smile and fun loving personality. As well as his generous and caring heart.
William was an avid deer hunter. He was a NASCAR and football enthusiast. A former Mason and Shriner. Also a member of the South Carolina Golfing Association.
William retired from Fort Jackson in 1998 after 23 years of service in the Electrical Division, where he received many accolades: Commander's Award for Civilian Service for working extended hours to restore power after an ice storm, Superior Performance Award, Leadership and Management Development Award, and Certificate of Achievement from Midlands Technical College. He also retired from Dorchester County Government in 2017 after 17 years of service in its Maintenance Department.
Predeceased by his parents, Howard and Edna Rutland, and his son-in-law, Jeff Reeves. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol, and his children, Tripp Rutland, Beth Reeves, Will (Karen) Beane, and stepson Michael Moore. Grandchildren: Tyler (Laura) Rutland, Tillman (Gemma) Reeves, Addison (Nick) Alfano, Trent Rutland, Austin Moore, Harleigh Beane, Tanner Beane, and six great-grandchildren. As well as many nieces and nephews who he loved and they loved him.
A visitation will be held at Carolina Funeral Home, located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, on February 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The celebration of life service will take place at Heritage Holiness Church, 3836 Ladson Rd, Ladson, SC 29456, on February 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Following the service, William will be laid to rest at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Rd, Summerville, SC 29485, with a burial scheduled from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm on February 10, 2026 with the visitation starting at 11 am.
